England. So many things have been said about it. So many poets have written about it. So many photographs have been taken of it. My England. It would be hard for me to add something new. England is special to me because I was born and raised there, but I no longer live there. I do not grieve for it because I have found somewhere equally special to live. My favourite memories of England are of walking over rounded hills, and views into meandering valleys, with dry stone walls, hedge rows, and bubbling streams. I remember small, neat villages with houses made of stone and the village pubs with welcoming coal fires. I always thought Derbyshire was one of the most beautiful places. Everything seemed so natural, homely, and lived in. It was a place to relax, and forget that there was a world outside what you could see. The only disappointing thing about Derbyshire was the weather, that would often obscure the most breath taking views with low cloud and driving rain. But on a good day it could not be beaten My travels around England usually took me to the major cities to watch (see other page). And this lead me to appreciate what man was capable of doing to his home. There are parts of Manchester, Birmingham, and London that do not deserve to share the name "England" with the some of the most beautiful parts of Wiltshire or Norfolk. On the other hand, man has created some very beautiful buildings, and town centres that are as refreshing as the morning dew. The following pictures bring back good memories to me. I hope you enjoy them too. Railway viaduct at Leaderfoot, Scotland Cottages in Wootton Courtnay, Somerset Victoria and Albert museum, London
